MLD allows you to search for details about people who lived in London between c. 1190 and c. 1520, including their names, gender, occupations, craft memberships, citizenship status, civic office, and neighborhoods (ward, parish, and streets, if available), and other characteristics. For a quick guide to the different fields in MLD, see the Guide to the Database. For information on which sources we have used thus far, see Sources and Abbreviations. To understand the guidelines we followed in linking records to specific individuals, see Protocols for Name Linkage. There are three ways to search MLD:
Search for Medieval Londoners: This search finds all individual Londoners who meet the search criteria you set, such as all records for a certain person or all Londoners identified with a specific set of characteristics that you choose. If you click on an individual’s name, this search also displays a summary or Profile View that shows all records in MLD for this person (including records that are only possibly linked to this individual).
Search for Medieval Londoners Records: This search finds all records related to the search terms you choose. Like Search for Medieval Londoners, it gives you summary counts for specific characteristics but shows all records with those search terms, not just one record per individual Londoner. If you click on an individual’s name, this search also displays a summary or Profile View that shows all records in MLD for this person (including records that are only possibly linked to this individual).
Advanced Search: This search allows you to find records that fit the specific criteria or terms that you set.[Advanced search temporarily inactive]

It is important that you cite the access date since new records are regularly being added. To cite records attached to a specific individual: “Medieval Londoners Database, Person ID [nnn]” (www.medievallondoners.ace.fordham.edu, accessed [today’s day/month/year]), where [nnn] is the MLD Person ID attached to that individual.
